Digitalization goes to school-English

Our school is one of the five partners of the European Project “Digitalisation goes schools”. The project began in September 2019. The Applicant school is the Austrian one and the other partners are from Spain, Portugal and Croatia.The goal we want to reach is to improve our knowledge concerning virtual technology, to work out a virtual guide of the involved cyties. During the first year the mobility involved meetings in four countries. The first meeting was in Wolfsberg, Austria.

Within the European Project “Digitalisation Goes Schools”, a group of four students and two teachers from Armellini School participated in the fourth mobility event that took place from the 27th of March to the first of April 2022 in Madeira, at the Escola Secundaria Francisco Franco. It is a technical industrial secondary school like Armellini, with more or less 1500 students which got its name from the modernist sculpturist Francisco Franco, inhabitant of Madeira.

The participants from Armellini were two Mechanic and two IT students. During the mobility event we attended some workshops concerning Electronics, where the students had to build a ROV  based on Arduino. Once built, they tested it in the sea. All workshops were held in English and the groups were a mix of students coming from Portugal, Spain, Austria, Croatia and Italy. This helped the participants to improve technical, cultural and language skills.

Furthermore we had a meeting with the major of Funchal, maintown of Madeira. We were told the history and shown old traditions of welcoming strangers to the town. The presence of different cultures and etnies has made the Island rich of lots of traditions, which are transmitted in their food, colours, architechture, art and music. The mild and stable climate allows growth of rich vegetation, offering green landscapes with amazing waterfalls falling from the mountains, inviting mindfulness of humankind as part of nature.

In conclusion, some impressions of our students that took part in the mobility:

Adam 5A/B: This Erasmus+ experience has been very interesting in terms of culture and communication. We learnt how to relate and observe several features with critical thinking. I really enjoyed the team work in a coordinated group and reaching the set goal.

Davide 5A/B: A unique experience – this trip has been useful to increase my language and interpersonal skills and the construction of the ROV and its test at sea was very interesting.

Riccardo 5G: In Madeira I had a great time, talking with locals and with the students from other participating countries. A moment of coming together and sharing experiences on a magnificent Island, which is a mixture of sea and mountains. It was a memorable experience and I want to thank the teachers for accompanying us, and the teachers and students of the Portuguese school for welcoming and helping us to build a ROV.

Ralph 5G: Thanks to Erasmus+ we have had the possibility to visit and see the beauty of Madeira Island. We could share memories with fantastic people from other schools and other nations. We have even learnt new things, like building a ROV, the history of Funchal and lots of its great food. I want to thank everybody who has allowed and organized this project and I wish the future students to enjoy their mobility as we could.

Mobility Erasmus Plus a Las Palmas de Gran Canaria –  December 2021  (Prof.ssa G. Sartorio)

Erasmus Plus went a step further with its project “Digitalisation Goes Schools”. A group of European students coming from different countries joined for the week between 13-17 December in Las Palmas in order to share once again experiences and different cultures.

The Italian group was made out of 4 students from the informatic branch and two teachers.

The activities were organized between workshops and making new friends, discovering beautiful places and good Spanish food. Our students developed a project and learnt how to measure the temperature and the humidity of the environment, using Arduino IOT, that allowed us to create connected devices able to interact through apps.

A special moment of socialising was during a visit to the Antique Distillery Arehucas, which originary handled with brown suger and later became one of the most famous distilleries in Europe, becoming an ufficial provider of the Spanish Royal Family. Furthermore we had a great naturalistic experience, hiking in the Roque Nublo, one of the biggest vulcanic area in the world, rising for 80m from the basic and more or less 1280m from the sea level.

Although our ufficial language was English, our students had been able to learn some basic Spanish in order to interact in daily routine with the inhabitants of the island.

Mobility in Austria- November 2021

After having waited a long time due to the pandemic, our Institute has  taken part in the mobility to Austria, Wolfsberg, joining all partners once again the Erasmus Plus project “Digitalisation Goes Schools”, that we started two years ago. The meeting took place from 8th-12th of November at the HTL (Höhere Technische Lehranstalt). This time two students from the mechanic branch and two from informatic branch could learn more about robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality and how to use software and programs like Blender  and Unity in order to create an application, concerning traditional dishes. Besides improving technical competences, the group has learnt a lot about Austrian culture and visited the capital town of Carinthia, Klagenfurt. Even the mayor of Wolfsberg has welcomed us in the townhall, telling us the history of the town and underlining the importance of cultural and professional exchangings, that have been going on over the years.  As the meeting was in English, the partecipants had to comunicate in English, improving their language competences. In conclusion here are some impressions of the students:

Liviu:  The trip was very illustrative from the point of view of learning in Austria, I was able to admire the great landscapes that Austria has been able to offer me. During the trip I felt a sensation of great change because many things are different compared to Italy, the food, the climate and the way people have to interact with us.

Călătoria a fost foarte ilustrativă din punct de vedere al învățării în Austria, am putut admira peisajele grozave pe care Austria mi-a putut oferi. În timpul călătoriei am simțit o senzație de mare schimbare pentru că multe lucruri sunt diferite în comparație cu Italia, mâncarea, clima și modul în care oamenii au să interacționeze cu noi.

Filippo: What I was impressed mostly by this experience was the comparison  with the same aged boys, with their different customs and habits from ours; another thing that I won’t certainly forget are the typical Austrian villages.

Alessandro 5i: First of all, this journey helped me to improve my english skills, because I got to talk with people from different countries (not only Austria).It showed me new things, concepts about Austria and I tried new flavours that I didn’t know.I also learnt how people in countries different from mine have a different way to behave.

Lorenzo 5A/B: Thanks to the E.U. we went to Austria to visit some cities and the equivalent of our school. The Goal was to improve our English and to meet different cultures. I think this project was very nice and useful.
